eBay to sell 65% of Skype

Recently, eBay agreed to sell 65% stakes in telephone service Skype Online to Andreesen Horowitz, a venture capital firm led by co-founder of Netscape, Mark Andreesen. The sales transaction value is US$ 1.9 billion. The value of this sale, as quoted by toptechnews.com (1 / 9), is much smaller than when eBay bought it in 2005, which amounted to US$ 2.6 billion.

Skype last year generated revenue of US$ 551 million for eBay or an increase of 44% compared to the previous year. This year, the economic conditions are not yet fully stable, predictably Skype keeps growing by 25% until the end of the year with a potential profit of US$ 170 million. This is affected by the addition of registered VoIP products and Skype users around the world.
